Work, Health, and Love: What is Health?
At Camp Fire, we have a guiding slogan: “Work, Health, Love.” These values are central to the Camp Fire mission, and they can be interpreted in many meaningful ways. Today, we’d like to take a closer look at “Health.”
For many Camp Fire alumni and campers, “Health” represents the prioritization of wellbeing, for yourself and others. At Camp Fire, we believe that health extends far beyond physical fitness. It includes caring for your mental and emotional wellbeing, building meaningful relationships, spending time outdoors, and developing habits that help you thrive throughout your life. Whether it's trying a new activity, getting enough rest after a full day of adventures, encouraging a friend, or simply taking a moment to appreciate nature, every small choice contributes to a healthier, happier life.
Camp provides countless opportunities for children and teens to develop healthy habits in a fun and supportive environment. From swimming and hiking to team-building games and creative arts, campers stay active while building confidence and resilience. They also learn valuable life skills such as problem-solving, cooperation, and self-care— all of which contribute to lifelong wellbeing.
Just as importantly, Camp Fire fosters a community where everyone belongs. Feeling accepted and supported is an essential part of health, and the friendships formed at camp often last a lifetime. Campers learn to care not only for themselves but also for those around them, creating a culture of kindness, empathy, and encouragement.
As we reflect on the value of "Health," we invite you to consider what it means in your own life. Perhaps it's taking a walk outside, reconnecting with an old friend, trying something new, or simply making time to rest. However you define it, we hope you'll join us in embracing health as an ongoing commitment to living well and helping others do the same.
After all, a healthy community begins with healthy individuals—and together, we can continue building a place where everyone has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and belong.
